Bridging a Critical Gap

A Tree For Every Tanzanian exists to solve three interconnected crises at once: companies need credible paths to carbon neutrality, rural communities need sustainable income, and Tanzania is losing its forests at an alarming rate.

We connect these three urgent needs through transparent, community-led reforestation. We work with corporations to accurately measure their carbon emissions, then channel their commitment to climate action into tree-planting projects that transform rural livelihoods. This is not charity — it's investment in climate action and human dignity, designed to last for generations.

We believe genuine restoration happens only at the intersection of three forces: authentic climate action, equitable partnerships, and true community ownership. That's where lasting change takes root. Every tree we plant is a commitment to this philosophy — tracked, managed, and nurtured by the communities who will benefit from it for decades to come.

Mainland Tanzania

Mainland Forest Restoration

Across degraded farmland, riverbanks, and deforested hillsides, we're planting mvule, teak, and native fruit trees. Communities select species based on local climate and their livelihood needs — timber for income, fruit for food, shade for crops.

Zanzibar mangroves
Zanzibar

Zanzibar Mangrove Revival

Zanzibar's coastlines depend on mangroves for fish nurseries, storm protection, and community income from crabs and shellfish. Our coastal teams are replanting thousands of hectares of mangrove forests destroyed by development and climate change.

Livelihoods

Youth Employment in Forestry

Young Tanzanians are trained as nursery managers, planting crew leaders, and forest monitors. These aren't temporary jobs — they're careers in an emerging green economy, with skills that grow in value as Tanzania's forests grow in size.

Women leading environmental committees
Gender Equity

Women-Led Environmental Committees

In every community we work with, women lead the environmental management committees. They decide which trees to plant, how forests are managed, and how community revenue is spent. Equity isn't an afterthought — it's structural.

🌍 Why This Matters Now

Tanzania's forests are disappearing. Climate change is making rains unpredictable, affecting farming and water supplies. Young people are leaving rural areas because there's no income. At the same time, global companies face mounting pressure to act on emissions. This project solves these problems together — not as a short-term charity, but as infrastructure for Tanzania's resilient future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions?
We have answers.

Everything you need to know about how our model works, where the money goes, and how your trees are tracked and managed.

Can't find what you're looking for? Reach out directly at info@atfet.org

How do you calculate carbon emissions?
We use internationally recognized emissions factors from the IPCC and EPA. Our calculator accounts for electricity use, gas heating, transportation (cars, flights), diet, shopping habits, and digital activities. Each activity is converted to equivalent CO₂ to give you a total annual carbon footprint.
Why plant real trees instead of buying carbon credits?
Carbon credits are abstract numbers. Planting real trees is tangible and verifiable. You can track your trees growing in real time. Plus, your money doesn't just buy offsets — it goes directly to community wages, nursery development, and long-term forest management. You're creating jobs and restoring ecosystems, not just buying a certificate.
How many trees offset one ton of CO₂?
A mature tree absorbs about 20 kilograms of CO₂ per year. Over its lifetime (30+ years), it can sequester roughly 20 tons of CO₂. Our calculator gives you the precise number based on your specific emissions and the species mix we plant.
What species of trees do you plant?
We plant native and beneficial species: clove, coconut, mango, and baobab for food and income; mvule and teak for timber; bamboo and eucalyptus for fast growth; and mangroves in coastal areas. Species selection depends on the location and community needs — communities always choose what they want to plant and manage.
Who gets the money from my donation?
65% goes directly to communities (wages for planting crews, nursery worker salaries, community infrastructure). 20% covers our operations (administration, monitoring, technology). 15% goes to government and environmental agencies. This follows Tanzania's Carbon Trading Regulations 2025, ensuring the majority of funds benefit communities directly.
How do I track my trees?
After planting, you receive a personalized tracking code. Use it to see your trees' GPS location, view photos from the ground, read updates from the managing community, and track their growth. We update status quarterly with images and progress reports.
What if the trees don't survive?
We guarantee a 90% survival rate through careful management and replanting. If trees die from natural causes, we replant replacements at our cost. Our community partners are incentivized to keep trees alive — they depend on healthy forests for long-term income. Historically, we've maintained 92% survival rates.
Can I visit my trees?
Yes! We organize annual donor visits to planting sites. You can meet the communities managing your trees, see them growing, and participate in seasonal activities. We coordinate transportation and accommodation. Contact us to join the next visit.
Do I get a tax deduction?
We're registered as an NGO in Tanzania. Depending on your country and local tax laws, donations may be tax-deductible. We'll provide all documentation (receipt, certificate, impact report) needed for tax purposes. Check with your local tax authority for specifics.
